A challenging hike over the Plateau des Bénés to the Col de Niard.
Discover the Col de Niard hike: this route begins in the forest, in the direction of Tête Noire.
As you climb, the forest gives way to an open plateau, offering spectacular views from the Plateau des Bénés. Here, pastoralism is still very much alive: don't be surprised to come across cows grazing in the mountains.
The highlight of this hike is undoubtedly the Col de Niard. A cascade of natural beauty awaits you, with majestic views of the surrounding peaks.
Easily accessible, this trail is suitable for all nature lovers.
1/ park at the Peray parking lot
2/ Head for Tête Noire, a forest path with a steep gradient.
3/ At Tête Noire, head for the Cabane Du Petit Pâtre, through the Plateau des Bénés.
4/ At the Cabane du Petit Pâtre, descend towards Col de Niard.
5/ At Col de Niard, you have two options:
Option 1: form a loop by heading for Chalets de Coeur. At Chalets de Coeur, descend to Pierre Fendue, then follow Cochenet. At Cochent, take the Portes des Alpages loop, direction Le Peray.
Option 2: Climb back up towards the Cabane du Petit Pâtre, then descend either from Tête Noire diection le Peray, or via Les Seythet, le Chanté and on to Le Peray.
