Description

Set out on your own on a mountain bike along the Baroque Trail! Along the way, you’ll encounter breathtaking scenery, surprising discoveries, and a past that will never stop catching up with you.

A route between Cordon and Saint-Gervais, perfectly marked—and yet far off the beaten path.
It alternates between gentle slopes and thrilling moments, sacred sites and iconic viewpoints. With glimpses that feel like moments frozen in time, shortcuts that take you back centuries, and deeply spiritual ascents into the heart of the chapels.
To recharge your batteries, you’ll be treated to all the bounty of the region and the warm hospitality of the mountain folk—whether at a meal served on a platter at the Porcherey refuge or during a picnic. And upon arrival, everyone shares the same feeling: that of having shared a truly unique experience.
Intermediate level on small roads, paths, and rocky trails. Regular mountain biking experience is recommended. Open to everyone ages 12 and up.
Please note: depending on the type of bike you have, the duration of the loop will vary:

  • For a mountain bike, the loop will take 7 hours and 15 minutes
  • For an e-MTB (electric-assist mountain bike), the loop will take 5 hours and 30 minutes

Marking

Marked trail, green signs with a cherub.

Guided steps

1/ Starting from Cordon, in front of the Church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, for a 7-hour-and-15-minute ride if you have a mountain bike.
2/ After visiting the church, head toward Combloux via the Route de Barthoud.
3/ Once you reach the D212, take the departmental road to the center of Combloux.
4/ At the Biotope roundabout, take the second exit onto Route de la Prairy. Continue on this road until you reach the hamlet of Le Crêt. Cross the Route de Saint-Gervais to take a section of the Route des Choseaux, then follow the Chemin du Giroux to reach the hamlet of Cupelin.
4/ Once you arrive in Cupelin, you can admire its pretty chapel. Then continue on Route de Ponthieux until you reach the Bettex Oratory.
5/ Then continue along the Chappey Trail to reach the Bettex Road. Head down the road, pass by the Mont-Joly School, and at the Gollet stop, head back up the Saint-Nicolas de Véroce Road. Near the Combe bus stop, you can admire the Combe Chapel.
6/ At the Vincents bus stop, take the Chemin des Chattrix, which climbs to your right. You can stop for a break in front of the Chattrix and Plans Chapel.
7/ Then continue uphill until you reach the intersection of the D43 and the Route de Saint-Nicolas de Véroce (Les Chattrix stop), and follow the road downhill from there.
8/ After the Les Plans bus stop, turn right and take the walking trail that leads uphill right in front of the Church of Saint-Nicolas de Véroce, which is worth a visit.
9/ Continue up the Route de Saint-Nicolas, then turn right onto the Route de la Croix, which passes near the Chapel of Véroce. Follow the Route de la Croix uphill.
10/ At the end of Route de la Croix, take Route d’Hermance, which will lead you to the top of the Chattrix chairlift. Continue along the Chemin de Porcherey, which will take you to the Porcherey mountain hut for a well-deserved lunch break or picnic.
11/ Head back down the same path, then, after passing the Chattrix chairlift station, continue straight on to Plan des Chouets. Once at Plan des Chouets, take the path that turns left and climbs to Longemalle. Next, take the Lays trail, then at the “Le Haut de la Crête” sign, take the trail that climbs up to Les Orgères.
12/ Take the upper Orgères trail, which crosses the Percherey cul-de-sac, and continue on to Bettex.
13/ When you reach the “Bettex ESF” sign, take the Route de Bettex, which climbs up to the hamlet of Prapacot and then to the hamlet of Intages.
14/ Then turn left onto the Route des Intages toward the hamlet of Serves. In the hamlet, take Route des Serves toward the hamlet of La Demi-Lune. Then continue toward the Princesse gondola station, go around the roundabout, and follow the signs for Combloux.
15/ After the Feug bus stop, turn left and take Route de la Savoyarde to the Plein Soleil bus stop, then take Route du Feug toward the Saint-Nicolas Church in Combloux. You can visit the Baroque Church of Saint-Nicolas.
16/ Continue along this same road (Route du Pelloux), and at the stop sign, turn left toward Cordon. Follow the same route as on the way there, and you’ll arrive in the center of the village.
