Description

A route between Cordon and Saint-Gervais, perfectly signposted, yet far off the beaten track.
Alternating gentle slopes and thrills, sacred places and cult viewpoints. With escapes that resemble little suspended moments, shortcuts that take you back centuries and highly spiritual climbs into the heart of chapels.
To recharge your batteries, you'll be served the generosity of the land and the hospitality of the mountain people, on a platter at the Porcherey refuge or during a picnic. And when you arrive, you'll all feel the same: that you've shared a truly special experience.
Intermediate level on small roads, tracks and stony paths. Regular mountain biking recommended. Open to all aged 12 and over.
Please note that the length of the loop will vary according to the type of bike you have:

  • For a mountain bike, the loop will last 7hrs 15mins.
  • For a VTTAE (mountain bike with electric assistance), the loop will last 5h30.

Guided steps

1/ Depart from Cordon, in front of the Church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, for a 7.15-hour ride, if you have a mountain bike.
2/ After visiting the church, head for Combloux on the Barthoud road.
3/ Once on the D212, take the main road to the center of Combloux.
4/ At the Biotope roundabout, take the second exit onto Route de la Prairy. Continue along this road until you reach the hamlet of Le Crêt. Cross the route de Saint-Gervais to take part of the route des Choseaux, then take the chemin du Giroux to reach the hamlet of Cupelin.
4/ Once in Cupelin, admire the pretty chapel. Continue on the route de Ponthieux to the oratoire du Bettex.
5/ Continue on the Chemin de Chappey to reach the Route du Bettex. Go down the road, past the Ecole du Mont-Joly, then at the Gollet stop sign, up the Saint-Nicolas de Véroce road. Near the Combe stop, you can admire the Combe chapel.
6/ At the Les Vincents stop, take the Chemin des Chattrix, which climbs to the right. You can stop off in front of the Chapelle des Chattrix and the Chapelle des Plans.
7/ Then continue uphill until you come to the junction with the D43 Route de Saint Nicolas de Véroce (Les Chattrix stop sign) and follow it downhill.
8/ After the Les Plans stop sign, turn right and take the footpath that climbs up just in front of the Church of Saint-Nicolas de Véroce, which is well worth a visit.
9/ Continue up the Saint-Nicolas road, and turn right onto the Route de la Croix, which passes close to the Chapelle de Véroce. Go up the route de la Croix.
10/ At the end of Route de la Croix, take Route d'Hermance, which will take you to the top of the Chattrix chairlift. Continue along the Chemin de Porcherey to the Refuge de Porcherey for a well-deserved lunch or picnic break.
11/ Go back down the same path, then after the Chattrix chairlift, continue straight on to the Plan des Chouets. When you reach Plan des Chouets, take the left-hand path up to Longemalle. Then take the Chemin du Lays, and at the sign for "Le Haut de la Crête", take the path up to Les Orgères.
12/ Take the chemin des Orgères du haut, which crosses the impasse du Percherey, to continue on to Le Bettex.
13/ At the "Bettex ESF" sign, take the Bettex road up to the hamlet of Prapacot, then the hamlet of Intages.
14/ Then turn left on the route des Intages towards the hamlet of Les Serves. At the hamlet, take the route des Serves towards the hamlet of Demi-Lune. Continue towards the start of the Princesse gondola, take the roundabout and follow signs for Combloux.
15/ After the Feug stop sign, turn left and take the Route de la Savoyarde to the Plein Soleil stop sign, then take the Route du Feug towards the Église Saint-Nicolas de Combloux. You can visit the Baroque church of Saint-Nicolas.
16/ Continue on this same road (route du Pelloux) and at the stop sign, turn left towards Cordon. Follow the same route as before, and you'll arrive in the village center.
