Come dance with the Cordon Village Folk Dance Group, "Lou Bénnéttons."
The group, formed in 1956, was initially a group of friends who performed at local festivals. Over time, the group became more organized and joined the Union of Folk Groups of Haute-Savoie. Since 1976, it has been known as “Lou Bennetons,” in homage to this farming tool that was once widely used to work our sloping land. Today, about thirty people between the ages of 15 and 60 share the joy of performing our village’s traditional dances.
Notable performances include: the closing ceremony of the Albertville Winter Olympics (1992); several appearances at the International Alpine Folklore Festival (Italy); regular exchanges with groups from all regions of France; and the 350th anniversary of the city of Irkutsk (Siberia).
During performances, 16 dancers take turns performing parade dances, quadrilles, large circle dances, “grand’danses,” polkas, mazurkas, and other waltzes in a show lasting about an hour, all accompanied by accordionists, clarinetists, and violinists.
Please feel free to contact us to arrange a meeting.
The “Lou Bénnéttons” folk group performs every year during the August 15 festival, the Fête de la Miou, and at Bread Day on the first Sunday in September.
