A hike through the forest before heading toward the alpine pastures and the summit, where the sheep are grazing during the summer. From the Croise Baulet and its bench, you’ll enjoy a sweeping 360° panoramic view of the Aravis and the Mont Blanc massif,

Set out to conquer the Grand Croisse Baulet from Avenaz—a challenging and strenuous hike. With a highest point at 2,236 meters, this trail—classified as difficult (red level)—promises breathtaking mountain views.

Experienced hikers will find this challenge rewarding, all while enjoying the majestic scenery and local flora.

Don’t miss a well-deserved break at the famous bench at the summit, which offers a vast and spectacular view of the surrounding peaks.

Lovers of pastoral life and mountain traditions will also be delighted by this authentic setting.

Warning: Patous (sheepdog) are present on the Croisse Baulet mountain pasture from July through approximately mid-September.
As stipulated by Municipal Ordinance No. 18/2024, domestic dogs are prohibited on the communal mountain pasture around Montagne de Croisse Baulet between July 1 and September 15.

This year, guard dogs and sheep on the Croisse Baulet will remain on the mountain pasture until October 2, 2026.

Difficult sections

Be careful during the summer when passing through areas guarded by guard dogs.

Guided steps

1/ Park at the upper Lezaive parking lot, at the start of the forest road (or possibly from Les Plaines)
2/ Take a dirt path that climbs fairly directly toward Les Plaines,
3/ Once you reach Les Plaines, follow the Avenaz trail to the Col de l’Avenaz,
4/ Once at the Avenaz Pass, follow the signs for Grand Croisse Baulet
5/ Descend via the Petit Croisse Baulet,
6/ Pass through the Jaillet Pass,
7/ Return to the forest road;
